Grant to create a lecture series on opioid addiction in the older population
The Starting Point, Inc. (www.startingpoint.org) is a non-profit educational and referral center located in Haddon Township, New Jersey serving individuals and families seeking support for mental wellness, recovery and personal growth. They coordinate and facilitate many programs including referrals to counseling and psychotherapy, workshops, forums, twelve-step meetings and weekend programs. Through their involvement with the community, the educators at Starting Point realized that there are limited programs addressing the issues of opioid misuse in our older population. Quest for the Best gave a grant which will assist Starting Point in creating and presenting an education program targeting the aging population in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. The program will focus on opioid education, the warning signs of addition, early intervention, the progression of addiction, how to recover and how to find help. The twenty-five, 85-minute lectures will be presented at senior centers, 55-plus communities and churches/synagogues in our region.
